About the TeamThe IT department provides a wide range of IT systems and services to Future Publishing.  In particular, the IT department has overall responsibility for supporting over 1200+ internal customers globally and managing over 1300 desktops and mobile devices globally.

The department aims to ensure that systems and services are effective, efficient and economic, meeting operational needs and supporting business plans.  It is committed to continually improving the way we work and the services that we are responsible for.The IT team is made up of Service Desk, Infrastructure, Internal and Business systems that provide support, solutions and expertise to the business globally.

Job PurposeFuture is an international company with offices on 3 continents. This role will manage the Mac device management environment, create, patch and implement Future’s corporate client builds and Software packages for the global business. 

The successful candidate will be required to have experience using Mac device management software such as Jamf or Munki, other remote deployment tools/methods would be beneficial. The ability to read and understand the MacOS console log for efficient fault finding and diagnostics is a key part of the Mac management 

This role will be involved with the management of the desktop and mobile estate, which involves maintaining builds, patching, application deployments and reviewing new hardware/software for use within the business. In addition, this role will be responsible for the maintaining of the Mac documentation, keeping it up to date and relevant.

This role will act as a 2nd / 3rd line role with a specialism in Apple Macs and will be required to train peers and juniors in the Mac processes and on the Mac device management software.

This role will work closely with the other global support teams to resolve issues, manage IT requests and provide assistance in a follow the sun model in a 2nd line capacity

Note: IT Service Desk and IT Operations work together to provide internal customer support between the hours of 08:30 and 17:30 during business days. Weekend and bank holiday Work may be necessary depending on requirements. 

Key responsibilities

  • To develop methods and procedures for the deployment of MacOS machines in a corporate environment, ensuring that software distribution, patch management and upgrades can be managed centrally 

  • To provide technical assistance in the development and testing of software and services and to assist in the planning, implementation, documentation and on-going support of any Mac-based corporate system 

  • To maintain an awareness of developments in the industry and participate in the sharing of knowledge and ideas across the department and other areas of the business

  • Autonomously deliver projects as directed by line management to agreed timescales, cost, and quality

  • Mentor peers and junior Engineers providing excellent support and advice

What do I need to succeed?

  • At least five years of experience in managing a Mac environment including the Design, configuration, management and deployment of OS build and applications 

  • Networking Knowledge - Configuring and troubleshooting routers, network equipment

  • The desire to 'automate everything', combined with the ability to rapidly learn the technical skills necessary to do so

  • Ability to independently solve technical issues

  • Experience of MacOS Server knowledge, advanced configuration and troubleshooting is desired

  • Good experience with VMware ESXi - Installation, management and troubleshooting

  • Proven working experience with Mac device management tools to deploy builds, software, patches, and updates. Knowledge of Jamf Pro is desired

  • Previous experience with Apple DEP & VPP

  • Extensive knowledge of asset management, Software licensing, packaging and scripting

  • Experience with G Suite and Office 365 service administration

  • Experience with Font management via a font management client such as Universal Type Client or equivalent

  • Encryption and Backup experience

  • Good knowledge of scripting: Python, Bash, UNIX command-line including shell scripting and diagnostics tools

  • Meticulous at keeping documentation up to date and factual

  • Excellent communication, teamwork and customer service skills will be crucial in this role 

  • Apple certifications desirable but not essential
