Garmin is a great place to work if you love developing products that make a difference and are passionate about technology.Your role would be to develop Android applications using Android SDK, Kotlin, ADT, java core, OOP, following the best practices and using standard development tools.We are currently looking for engineers to join three project teams:The Outdoor Team: We provide our customers online mapping (real-time tracking, trip planning) and satellite text messaging (and other important features like Weather over-the-air). Our SOS satellite communication features rescue people every single day with inReach capable devices.The Garmin Marine Team: We develop the ActiveCaptain™ app which provides a powerful connection to the Garmin chartplotter, charts, maps and the ActiveCaptain community. Smart notifications on the chartplotter screen keep the connection with everyone else ongoing. This app offers the possibility to plan a trip or pre-fish a lake, while automatically sync with the chartplotter or even view and control the chartplotter from a smartphone or tablet while on the water.The Garmin Connect IQ Team: The store is the source for personalizing compatible Garmin Devices with free downloads of apps, widgets, watch faces, data fields, music streaming services and more.Requirements

  • Strong knowledge on Android components such as Services, Providers, Activities, Fragments, threading, BT/BLE API’s
  • Strong Java and Android Studio knowledge
  • Experience with Kotlin
  • Utilize software development tools and Instruments to develop, test, debug, and deploy quality software
  • Create and execute designs for software components within a larger project
  • Perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software project
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Software Engineers
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes
  • Perform technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
  • BSc in Computer Science, IT or similar
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Android development
